This site is exellent:
I always check their reviews before booking a room anywhere, so far it's been a really good help.

I've never been there but applegirl has the right idea. Check the ratings on hostel sites. One thing I will say is that I've heard the hostel situation isn't the best in New Orleans particularly the HI there, but just by the looks of the place, it seems to be fairly decent. Plus you're not too too far from the Mardi Gras action. You will definitely have lots of fun!

I did some searching on hostels in N.O., and came away with the same impression as Tam. Not the most reliable or clean of places, from the feedback I read. But I didn't actually visit any, so I can't say for sure.

I found that for 2 people, though, a B&B came out to just about the same price. You may have to stay a little bit out of the way, but the walk into town is nice and you get a decent, safe place with breakfast, to boot.

Thanks a bunch, folks... I've stayed in B&Bs before and realy like them but problem is during mardi gras, their prices skyrocket..
