Quoting Tills

Does anyone know if there's a restriction on how long you can work in one place with a NZ Working Holiday Visa? I know in Oz you have to change employer every 3 months, is it the same in NZ? x

For Oz, it changed 2-3 years ago to now allowing you to work for up to six months for the same employer. For New Zealand it used to be a maximum of 3 months per employer, but right now on the UK working holiday scheme page says: "you must not take up permanent employment" and "you must not work for a period exceeding 12 months", which to me reads as if you could work for the same employer for the entire length of time, just as long as you're not on a permanent contract. I'm not really confident of that interpretation though, so if it specifically matters to you, I'd try contacting them (they list a UK phone number).

Thanks Sander! That's how I read it as well, reassured that someone else interpreted it the same way. I'm sure if a maximum time in one place was a rule they'd of said in the application process.

Thanks again! T

The time will fly in and before you know it we'll all be in New Zealand living the backpacker lifestyle and having lots of fun adventures.

Hi Annie,

Glad to hear someone is doing a similar thing,

My plan was to spend a max of 6 months in Auckland, however I was going to do the farming thing earlier than I initially planned, if I didn't get on with the city. I know what you mean about not being a city goer, I'm the same.

I have been using Seek as well, what sort of jobs are you going for then?

On the farming front, I haven't done too much research in to it just yet, basically found a couple of websites and was going to apply for closer to the time, as it keeps changing.

How long are you planning on being in NZ in total?

Hey Andy

I plan to make the most of the working hol visa so will enjoy nz for a year!! I have friends in auckland so plan to stay with them till i get accommodation. You said in a previous post about one bed flats with free wifi!!what are they looking per month for something like this? I come from a social work background so anything in social care would be a bonus!! The farming I think i will sort out as i go along! im not one for making major intineries so ill go with the flow!
