Say a couple million. I'd buy a number of little beach bars in a number of Caribbean beach towns. I'd install my friends as guys who would manage and co own the places. I'd spend a lot of time bumming back and forth between the different countries, slapping dominoes down ridiculously hard here, betting on the "chicken drop" there and generally pretending I was the second coming of Jimmy Buffett. I'd spend some money fixing up some of the small villages that I've fallen in love with over the years, but tell everyone it was some charity that got the money. I'd hire a vet and pick an area and try to catch every mangy half dead dog and spay and neuter the thing so it wouldn't send another generation to live the horrible life it was living.
I'd send a couple of local handymen to electrician school so that some of these goddamn towns wouldn't continually burn flat because of all the hincky wiring.
I'd see if I could get a program going where I could get a bunch of used shoes from the states sent down to give to the poor in CA....Then I would try to convince all the people with fucked up feet to actually put these things on.
And I would mount a scuba diving expedition in Lago Peten Itza to try and find the mythical Stone Horse that was supposedly lost in there.

And I'd probably blow the rest just generally drinking and carrying on like an idiot

Where do I send my resume?

Skills & Attributes:

  • TP Grande Dame (aka TP Mom) and adept at being a friend.
  • Have a Caribbean island already scoped out for a beach bar. (Hey, you aren't the only one dreamin' this dream.)
  • Will fawn over your "second coming of Jimmy Buffett" the way they do the real one at Margaritaville and Cheeseburgers In Paradise establishments. (Okay, maybe free drinks and we'll let you sing.)
  • Trained Vet Tech. (Have neutered mice, rats, cats, dogs, pigs, sheep and cows single-handedly.)
  • Experienced with 800 amp service and rewiring houses within code.
  • Can't help with the shoe thing.
  • Certified Advanced Open Water diver. (Will it require nitrox? Been to 120 ft on compressed air only. We laugh at nitrogen narcosis! Just kidding!! Been there, done that - won't be doing it again. The narcosis thing, not the 120 ft thing.)
  • Team player. (Meaning you get a package deal - 2 for the price of 2 - Beerman is experienced in all of the above except the neutering (he winces a lot with the males but will assist if absolutely necessary - I understand his point) and the shoe thing.)

Isa, I'm sure you know people with old shoes - people like me. Thusly, you are also qualified for this part of the scheme! You should most definitely be hired on the spot ***hint hint***

Absolutely no work.

I'd work. Would give my earnings to charity though. I find that after 2 or 3 weeks I get bored. At least at work I can lay the smack down on somebody !

What would you do???

Get a pair of D700's, a camper van and do a tour of North America, Europe, then Asia, Africa and South America.

1/3 to charity, 1/3 to friends & the rest to play with.
1st on the list would be get a DR-Z400 or XR400 and ride around the world (europe, down the west coast of africa, up the east across to asia, down to aus/nz, then south america to north).

I would just work part-time instead of full-time which I do now. That way I could actually visit the countries my bosses send me too without having to work all the time. Bit of a busmans holiday but no stress or pressure anymore. I really like my job and even if I won a few million I doubt I would give it up but it would be nice to do just one or two days a week instead of what I do at present. I would like a very big boat too. Always fancied being miles out at sea with a table full of food in the sunshine with no flies in sight

I guess I wouldn't change much except two things:
1. Get myself a decent car instead of the old crappy one I have now (I drive about 40,000km a year so that bugs me)
2. Keep travelling, though visit some places that are actually too expensive right now for me, mainly being the most southern and northern places on this beautiful planet, and some very remote islands.
