Dear all,

I am doing a Volunteer placement for 2 months in Lima Peru and will like to Travel to Bolivia and Chile after so i need some advice please:-

1. What is the best way to get from Peru ---> Bolivia

2. What is the best way to get from Bolivia-->Chile

3. How many days should I stay in Bolivia and Chile?

4. Is it safe for a girl to be travelling alone like this?

5. Any useful links for hostels for both places (or even recommend a hostel for me that will be great)

Any additional advice or info will be kindly appreciated as well as I have never been to South America before...let alone travelling by myself as well...! I will be in Peru from March-April 2011 and in Bolivia and Chile on May 2011

Well you´ve asked a lot of questions that I think will all depend on your travels when you get there. I mean you´ll meet tonnes of people and your plans will change. Don´t worry about travelling alone, if you keep your wits about you, you´ll be fine :)

Getting from Peru to Bolivia is very easy indeed, you just get a bus to Copacabana or La Paz. From there you´ll probably heading south east and i´d imagine you´ll end up passing through Uyuni. Now depending on what you want to do you can cross into Chile from here as part of a tour of the salt plains. You´ll arrive at San Pedro de Atacama, a very popular tourist destination. Alternatively you could carry on south in Boliva and pass the border into northern Argentina and on to the nearest cities (Salta and Jujui). You can pass into Chile from these cities or you could carry on to Mendoza and cross directly into Santiago.

The time you spend in one place depends entirely on what you want to do, see and who you´re with. I would say Cuzco and it´s surroundings (including Machupicchu) require at least 10 days.

i have seen your plans but i think you will arrive into Lima and after what places in Peru
you want to visit? so i recomend the north of Peru and the Jungle to finish in the south of course visiting Cusco - Macchupicchu, and Puno - lago Titicaca, that is the border next to
Bolivia. some info your friend in Facebook " Chico de las Calles". staying here in Lima- Peru.
