Hello Folks,

I purchased my WHV and am looking to travel to Melbourne towards the end of February. Not got concreate plans as such other than to arrive in Melbourne and reside in a hostel for a few weeks then take it from there however becoming very apprehensive about going over there on my own and would be keen to get in touch with fellow travellers prior to leaving. Any advice would also be much appreciated. Not booked my hostel yet so if any of you have stayed in Melbourne and can recommend one that also would be amazing. Thanks guys !

Hi,
we're a couple from England, we'll be here until March 17th. We've been in oz for 6 weeks, Melbourne for 1. Staying here now until we head to Thailand in March. Book into Pint on Punt, near St Kilda. Meet plenty of people there, be a nice place to start off

Hi guys,

Well im from melbourne oringinally and i have been through majority of hostels in my time. While in school i stayed at Melbourne discovery, it wasn great, really safe and really central!

Stay in central melbourne cause you will pay more the further out of the city you go, and its easy with trams and trains to stay central.;)

Hey! I'm travelling to Melburne for my own in July (want to work and study english there for 2 months and then travel the 3th month over Australia). As you are originally from there, could you help me with some tips, information or wherever you think is important for me to know before going there ?

Thank you so much! ;)

I stayed in Melbourne for 2 months and love Melbourne, really nice feel in melb. lots to do etc.

I stayed in Kingstreet Backpackers, was formerly Friendly Backpackers. it changed hands just as i left but if it is anything like it was then will be a great hostel.

I usually hate the city hostels, but i loved this one and will definately be going back.

I found it easy to get around in Melbourne, met some great people and found lots of bars, clubs etc to go to. Melbourne's not to big and not too small, i would recommend melb. over sydney for a first stop as i found it more relaxed and not as daunting.
