I am new to this site, and I just had a couple of quick questions about re-locating in Manchester, England. I am moving from Canada to England on a work permit, and I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on where the best area's/suberbs to live around Greater Manchester are? As of now I have considered Altrincham and Lymm which are both in Cheshire, but if anyone has any tips or recomendations they could offer that would be great.

Although I appreciate what you are trying to do, it's important not to 'take over' another posters thread which in a way is irrelevant to your thread. I'm leaving your post in, but just keep it in mind for the future.
John, sorry, I am not familiar with the Manchester area I'd move to Canada though if I had the choice
Well, thanks for atleast responding with something that is relevant to the question that I asked. Basically if anyone out there can give me any advice what so ever on Manchester suberbs, and where are the best suberbs to live in, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks for taking the time to read my post, and any help at all is appreciated!
Unfortunately i cant help you too much specifically, as i have not been to manchester, however a good friend of mine lived there for a year during 2003/2004. He stayed with his grandmother in one of the surrounding suburbs. It didn't take him too long to get to the city centre on public transport. I cant remember what suburb he was living in, however when i next see him i will try to remember to ask him for you> Hopefully someone should be able to help you out prior to that anyway!
Like any city, he did say that there were the rough parts of town and then the nicer parts.
Good luch with it all anyway
One of my best mates went to uni in Manchester. I'll ask him at the pub tonight where he lived and the best /cheapest areas. I'll let you know ASAP.
I don't know much about Manchester myself, but I hear it's got a good nightlife. All I could suggest is having a look through properties on Estate Agent websites to see where the cheper properties. Try www.yell.com (the yellow pages - it's our directory enquiries), do a search for estate agents in Manchester, and have a look around. It's not much help, but I thought it's better than nothing. Good luck!
Thanks guys for replying. If you want to let me know what your best mate there says that would be great. Im just looking for an affordable place to live, in a nice suberb. I know all places have rough areas, and I want to aviod those rough areas in Manchester. I dont know what they are, that's why i've come to you guys for help. Anways, when you hear back from you friend let me know. Thanks again guys, I really appreciate it!
