Hi all!

I am going to Kerala soon and was wanting some information on good houseboats from Alleppey. Does anybody have any companies to recommend/advise against?
We wanted to get a really nice one towards the more luxury end. How much should we expect to pay per night?

Also I know it is the high season then so was wondering if anybody had any trouble getting a boat or if there will be plenty of options even around this time? Do you think I would need to book in advance?

Thanks so much - I seem to have put a lot of questions into a small space!

Hi friend,
This is right time to visit Kerala..House boats are good option...You could get a houseboat of different ranges that matches your budget.

Another option you have is to visit Thekkady or Munnar..Munnar is hill station with lots of tea plantations while in Thekkady you could visit Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. -snip-

Alleppey is good place to visit. Alleppey is the focal point of most trips to the famed backwaters of Kerala. Dubbed the ‘Venice of the East’, Alleppey (Alappuzha in Malayalam) is a backwater haven with a unique crisscrossing network of canals and lagoons that spread across the center of the town. The Venetian ambiance of Alleppey is enhanced by the coir-made houseboats that punt along leisurely on the backwaters. A wealth of temples and churches add character to this understated seaside resort. The Alleppey Beach is another highpoint – it is a pristine stretch of sand lacing a choppy Arabian Sea, with an old character-filled pier, about 140 years old, extending into the sea.

climate here is generally humid and relatively more pleasant in the winter months. The best time to visit Alleppey would be August-September and February-March. In August-September you can witness the Nehru Trophy Boat Race, in which hundreds of men row a long snake-boat.

Well its the perfect time to visit Alleppey, but it's also the peak tourist season there. So u have to book in advance. You can take help of some online travel agents -snip- for this purpose.
