Hi Lucy, Im James 27 from Liverpool
Im heading to Oz on 23rd sept looking on doing thailand for the full moon party.
Im currently doing it alone as my mates have got no bottle to leave the city ha.
First stop is going to be Cairns, Plan is to find a little job there then head down the coast to Sydney. I would'nt mind doing Bali for christmas see how things work out.
Let me no more.
Hey Lucy and everyone,
I'm Shanelle, I'm 24 and from London. I'm also in the same boat. Been single a little while, friends all settling down and no one up for coming travelling with me! I really fancy a change and want to see the world, but am too scared to start off on my own! I would like to go with like minded people who are laid back and up for a laugh.
I have not firmed up where im going yet so am open to suggestions. But I want to go to thailand, oz, nz and just see as much of the world as poss.
I'm looking to go October time as this is when wedding season finishes! And i plan to have saved up enough pennies by then!
Hope to hear from you
I'm wanting to do Thailand and then Oz and would love to have that comfort of meeting peeps out there. I want to do Asia first but not exactly sure where to start but I would like to see as much as I can as it will be cheap so it would be good to get it all in.
I'm unsure who to fly with and what exact dates to go with but I have been in contact with a couple from TP but still need to do my own research and compare with the feedback i'm getting. Its all just so scary and it's quite hard to get the oul head round planning it all and being sure the route is the right one.
Anyway get in touch....if we all get together it'll be like one big family out there and we won't be so scared after all ha ha!
Hi Lucy and everyone else,
My name is Ashleigh, (26 year old female in Aberdeen), im also wanting to head out travelling at the end of the year, also a first timer so its quite scary but im so excited. I havent made firm plans yet but i this is what I am looking into:
Beginning of Novemer fly to Hong Kong, spend a couple of days there.
fly Hong Kong to Bangkok, spend a few weeks exploring, travelling by train down to Singapore.
Beginning of December fly Singapore to Australia, not sure which part yet.
spend a year in Australia working and travelling all over (maybe do a trip out to Bali or Fiji within that year).
Then head to New Zealand, fly into Auckland and out of Christchurch a few weeks later.
Fly to LA and make way by land to New York and fly home from there.
I want to do as much as possible but dont want to be too adventurous as its my first time travelling like this, i dont want to be too restricted by my plans either, if i like a place and its cheap to stay there and explore i'd like to be able to do that.
It's really nice to see that we all seem to be in the same boat, i hope we can help eachother out and maybe get together on our travels.
i am having trouble trying to get an idea on flights as its all so far in advance, round the world tickets only seem to work for 12 month trips whereas i want to spend the full year in Oz with about 4-6 weeks travelling either side. Also looking into this online it seems people are saying it can be cheaper to book your own as you go, just hunting for good deals. I had a quick look at the Aberdeen-HongKong-Bangkok/~/Singapore-Australia route as a 1 way and it was £940 which i though was quite good but i'll keep searching around.
does anybody else have a route in mind or think that what im planning sounds good?
all comments and advice welcome
P.S. this is my first post, not sure how this site works, can we PM eachother or make friend lists etc?
Just remember to stop off in South Africa as well! Otherwise you haven't been round the world!
What you want to do sounds exactly like what I had in mind - I don't want to be restricted to dates therefore a one way flight out suits me. The only part of the journey i'm not to bothered about is the USA which is because I would expect that to be expensive and had considered doing India on the way way but if it were cheap i'd also think about it. I#ll def need to work out in Oz too.
Anyway this is just to say your route sounds just like mine and also because I want to have a full year in Oz and the rest before and after. Mosty before though as i'd like to have Christmas at home in 2012!
I've not even started looking into flights as it's all too much to take in but it's nipping away at me that I need to do research. I've popped a few posts on this and find that it's a great website.
Anyway I'm pretty new to this too - only a couple of weeks here so get in touch as it seems i'm just south of you!
Hey Caz & Ash!
Check us Scottish lot out, taking over!!
Just reading your posts, you guys seem to be in the same kinda frame of mind as myself!
Have been wanting to do this for a while and applied for an Australian visa last week. I got it, so it's now valid for me to enter the country until 28th January 2012, then spend a year there on a working holiday....but kinda want to see the east before heading south!
Looking at heading out around October/November time this year...but doing it alone aswell, so it's always good to make contacts beforehand me thinks!
It's all a bit crazy...but 'citing at the same time!
hey Caz and Craig,
nice to hear from you guys,
Caz - you just made me think there, i wasnt that fussed about the america part either as it is something i can always do later on as more of a 'holiday' and it will be more expensive. when i was looking at RTW flights you have to go in one continious direction and that made the most sense to me but if i book flights separately then i can go back the way i came. im going to go and have a rethink about possible routes back now
Craig - i havent got my visa yet, that sounds really quick, theres nothing stopping you now, you have to just go for it! im getting my passport renewed at the minute and am applying for the visa asap.
for some reason i have a leaving date of 3rd nov in my head so thats roughly what im aiming for but could probably go anytime after mid october, it would be cool if we were all travelling at the same time and could meet up. id definitely like some buddies for the Bangkok-Singapore route. im just gonna keep doing research on this, are there any 'must see' places on your lists?
Yay Scottish (and Irish peeps! lol)
Sounds great, ya I have Oct/Nov in my head too but still need to think where I want to see! Have no exact route in Asia in mind but I am thinking that because it's apparently so cheap it would be great to see as much as possible. I would consider a month/6 weeks at most in Asia. Is it too adventurous to consider starting in Bejing?? (the great Wall of China, although I don't know how dear/cheap China is) and work our way down Thailand etc. Or start in Shanghai, for some reason I want to see a lil bit of China (be it 2/3 days) so if I could squeeze that in it would be great. I'm not gona get a working visa like this again so wana make the most - I'm bloody 31 damn it, tick tock tick tock! ha ha!
Again my heads all fuzzy with this, i'm just throwing out ideas and not set in stone but would like to use my year visa in Oz, really don't fancy being comitted to a RTW ticket as you only get a year therefore have to compromise some of your time in Oz to see Asia. I'm actually heading to STA Travel in Edinburgh this Thursday night, they are holding a RTW meeting from 7pm to give advise to peeps like me, i'm not wanting to book with an agency due to fees but thought it was worth using them for their info! I need to sit down with a BIG MAP me finks!
I think we could def meet and at least begin our trip together - also if you guys are in Edinburgh in the future it'd be great to meet for a coffee. I'll add both you guys on this anyway and can take it from there.

I totally know what you mean about the fuzzyness! It's mental trying to get your head around this for the first time...not trying to miss anything or anywhere out!
I'm the same Caz, about the years working visa. It's a great opportunity to actually have to spend a year in Oz, so i want to make the most of it, but feel it would be a shame not to spend a few weeks somewhere else beforehand!
Sweet, let us know how you get on with STA, was just checking out their site a considerable amount today - they seem well clued up, but i'm not into the whole agency thing!
Definately be up for starting out together! It's jsut a case of getting it all together!
