strayl10 has indicated that this thread is about Sydney

Hi there, my name is Sean and am travelling with my friends to Sydney on Sunday 16th January for a year. Just looking and planing my initial stay in Sydney and am staying in the YHA Syndey Central Hostel.

Just wondering if there is anyone on the same boat, or any helping points for accommodation after the initial stay.

What is the best accommodation to stay in?
do people stay in Hostels long term while working in sydney?
Cheaper options available?

Thanks

Sean:)

I know a few people that have stayed in hostels for months, but it's probably cheaper to find a flat and share it with a few other backpackers. There tend to be notices up on the noticeboards in hostels both offering beds in apartments, or of others looking for the same! I paid 110AUD per week back in 2000, but budget more around 250 per week (for a room shared with one other person) to be safe... there will probably be cheaper options though.

When my friend went to Sydney then he stayed in the Shangri-La hotel. He said that it’s a nice hotel.

thanks, does anyone have anymore reccommendations for places to stay? I hear YHA Sydney Central is very good, realitively expensive to in comparison to others!

Also can anyone give me advice on wheres best to get a job. I assume the city centre for lots of bars ect, looking for this kind of work and admin type work!

cheers

Hey Sean, don't worry too much. I'm in Sydney at the moment and have my own room just outside the city centre for 180 a week - there are cheaper options if you share the room with someone else...
You can find the typical backpacker jobs by just walking through the city, it's gonna be harder to find an office job. Have a look at www.gumtree.com.au, they have ads both for accommodation and jobs.
