I'm leaving in 6 weeks. Around the world without using any planes I'd tell anyone who'd listen after a couple of beers. Hmm not so sure now. I don't really have the best sense of direction, am not that practical and only have about 10 grand EURO.

is this crazy? Should I just fly to Thailand and relax for a few months? Just how cheap is China to live in, will I get teaching work with a fairly crap TEFL, Do I want to teach, will i spend too much time alone, will I ever even write a book let alone have it published?

Will I miss my mummy ?

And my dog ?

10,000 euro is a large amount of money in China. You can spend 1.5-2 comfortable years here(not luxurious though). And you don`t have to be alone. You might even get tired of all those people coming up to you and trying to practice their English by talking with you. Your students will offer to show you around and invite you to join their parties, meet their family...You can also travel around inside China and outside to the Eastern Asia...see, there`re actually too many things to do. Just go ahead!

Yes you will miss your dog. Not in a position to comment on your parental relations though.

Happy travels...

hey ken

when are u heading off? where are you starting?

i'm taking off hopefully with october also with a fairly crappy TEFL qualification, an English Literature degree and about €8000.

I will miss my Mum.

My dog, a golden retriever who has been a faithful friend since i was 12, was put down two weeks ago. I miss her more than anything.

I too harbour a desire to write and be published.

I too am scared sh*tless

Hey Ken,

stop worrying, just go for it. Around the world without using a plane sound class, I am thinking of something similar, though getting ships could be quite difficult or expensive. But where there's a will, there's a way.
With 10K you should get quite a long way, I'd reckon.
If you need some more comforting come up to our Drinking session in Dublin on the 12th February. See the Drinking Session thread for more details.

No planes ... Why not take your dog with you?
