NY Hotels for 4 - a 'double double'?

Travel Forums North America NY Hotels for 4 - a 'double double'?

Myself, my boyfriend and 2 friends (a married couple) are planning to visit New York in December this year. Having looked at some of the hotel options we're finding that the vast majority of those centrally located and within our budget (£700-£1000) seem to offer 'double double' rooms - i.e 2 double beds in one room. Is this the norm for NY? We're up for doing it if needed but just finding the whole set-up a bit odd!

Does anyone have any recommendations for good (well priced) hotels in NY?

Thaks :)

From memory (it's been a fair while since I last visited the country) in the US, a double room in a hotel or motel usually means it has 2 double beds. The option in hotels is often either 1 kingsize (known as super king size in UK) bed or 2 double beds.

yep - if you want private rooms either book 2 or find a suite hotel.

We were looking to spend under £1000 each for a weeks accommo plus flights. We've ended up booked somewhere pretty central (3 star) for £849 each - quad room. Doesn't seem too bad as long as I take some earplugs!
