The company I booked my tour through are sorting my visa, bank account, mobile phone number too... just not jobs... Hopefully i'll find something, i'm happy enough to do anything pretty much.

When you are doing the 3 months work for the secon year visa do you get paid? Or do you just have to work for nothing to get the visa, do you know?

I'm going out with about £4500, more if I can but thats what i'm looking like having at the moment.

I got a 75 litre roller rucksack, so I have the option to carry it or pull it. Carrying a rucksack about the size of me everyday didn't appeal to me much. Mine wasn't cheap either, but it's what I wanted.

No you don't get paid while doing the 3 months work but they put you up in accommodation and give you food and drink so technically you shouldn't be spending a lot if any of money. But with the money you are taking that should have you sorted for a while and defiantly enough time to find a job.

Are you going to do diving? I want to travel to Brisbane at some point just so I can explore the Great Barrier Reef! :)

Yeah I can imagine. On other discussions I've looked on, other people were saying the exactly the same thing! I did see on there that they were saying that on some of them the wheels dug into their backs so it put me off that type. Have you tried it on with weight on it? Do you think your going to struggle with it?

Are you going by yourself?

This is if you do wwoofing, which is one way of doing three months of specified work, but certainly not the only, nor even the most common. Most backpackers do fruit picking for three months, which is just a regular paying job (if not a very well paying one), and there's a ton of other options for "specified work" which gets you a 2nd year visa, including working in construction and mining.

so yes, you'd ordinarily (though not necessarily) get paid. And it's entirely up to yourself to find qualifying work.

Really, I didn't know that, thanks for that :) I may look at not doing the WWOOF then and try and get into doing construction which does pay pretty well. I will have to see what happens once out there.

Thanks :)

Hi Scott,

Yep, all on my own. People think i'm mad but I really want to go, i'll be fine once i've been there a few days...hopefully.

Not tried the bag no. There are not many shops around here that have bags to try or see, so I went online a few months ao and started looking at reviews. The one I picked seems good. Wanted the option of pulling it cause i'm quite small so wasn't sure how i'd cope carrying it all the time. Should be here in the next few days.

Diving i'm not too sure about. I don't mind swiming but have a bit of a fear of the sea. I will go to the Great Barrier Reef for sure, diving I don't know. I'd love to do it but not sure if I can.

Good to know we can get paid for the 3 months work for the second year visa, I might consider doing this now :)

When is it you leave the UK again?

I'm nervous too Leona, but like you said most people on here are in the same boat. Coming on here has made me feel better knowing how many other peoplw are doing the same thing :) 13 weeks this Saturday I leave, it's coming round so fast!!!

Hey Leona :)

I can understand you being nervous as that's exactly how I am right now! But like you said, everyone is in the same boat, so once out in OZ everything will be ok :)

Whats made you think about going travelling then?

I think its very brave that your going out there and not planning anything, I feel better knowing that I know where I'm going when I get there even if it is short term.

Leona, your situation and reasons are exactly the same as mine. I have thought about this for a very long time, I used to always say to my mum when I was young I was going to go to Oz but don't think she ever thought I actually would. So last July when things changed I decided it was time to get out of here and go see what I was missing out on :)

Eeek, how exciting!!!
