Hey guys,

Were slowly getting our heads around routes and things to see keep them coming in!Were just wandering whats the best order to see the 3 countries. Logically looking on a map we would head from thailand across through laos into vietnam and then come back to thailand via cambodia in a big loop? But we have since learned there are no trains in cambodia don't really want to fly unless its absolutely necessary as we have no time scale and we would like to see more of the countries themselves. Im guessing local routes into the different countries is more interesting and cheaper i might be wrong though? We're getting a boat from thailand into Laos are there similar options for the other countries?

Can anyone name any musts and definitely don'ts in vietnam, Cambodia, Laos?

Also can anyone on a separate note recommend any huts/hotels that you have stayed in that are just on beaches and not many tourists?

We would also like to see the temples in Ankgor and the tribe locals possibly do some volunteer work along the way to some how give something back. Is this easy to do with out doing it through a company or do you definitely have to have it booked before you leave the UK?

Thanks for everyones help!

China has been diverting much of the Mekong's water recently, and in the dry season, it could mean that the boats using the Mekong for transport in N. Laos simply can't operate. I noticed this low Mekong when I was in Luang Prabang in late November, and Nov is at the end of the wet season. I'm sure an alternate minibus transport would be available, but who wants to be in a bus!
You will notice that Laos is much poorer than Thailand, but the people are really friendlier. When you get to Vietnam, you will notice how much more aggressive the Vietnamese are. That trip from Laos to Vietnam is pretty rugged by land. Since I hate those buses, I flew into Hanoi. (yes, it is expensive!) At any rate, do not miss Luang Prabang - the diamond in the rough!

Buses are the way to get around Cambodia. Do's and don'ts depends on you. What do you want to do here?
