hows it going
im thinking of saving up for a trip across europe in such places as turkey, netherlands, greece (ios), france and spain
im going with a group of friends who will all be 18 by that time, but i will not quite be that age; i will be 17 for the vast majoirty of the trip. i am wondering if this will pose a major problem, for example i will not be allowed to enter clubs and bars whereas my friends will. i also look younger than my age so i would not be able to fool anyone.
is a fake id the solution?
I know that you can get pissed as a fart and get in to most places in France. Maybe not large clubs but all bars and things like that they are much more relaxed than England so to have a few is definately possible!
The only place I've ever been consistently carded (even just this month!) is in the U.S. Although I used to get carded at home in my early 20s, 'cause I looked younger than the legal drinking age here.
My feeling is that Europe, for the most part, is more open about drinking and therefore it's less likely that you'll be carded on a regular basis. I don't know for sure, though - only that, in all the times Ive gone out there, I've never been asked.
I wouldn't want to tempt the fates with a fake I.D., though. I can't imagine anything worse than being on the wrong side of the law in a foreign country, especially if you're skipping around from place to place where laws can change considerably.
You won't have any problem in France and Spain. I haven't been to the other places so I'm not sure about them.
Most Bars are not a problem - in many the drinking age is younger than that anyway! Scandinavia could cause you problems if you make it there, and some of the trendier places on a Fri or Sat night may be harder (having said that, some places are over 21 or even 23 only on certain nights so your all there together). But if you get in early, your normally fine. Clubs can be harder, but as i'm not really a clubber i can't really help with how strict they are. Again, if you get in before the rush starts, look smart-ish and not p1ssed out of your skull when trying to enter, you should be fine on the whole
Outside of Scandinavia (i.e. Sweden and Norway - Denmark doesn't care) and the UK once (2 days after i turned 18, despite being regular in bars from about 12...) i've never been stopped in Europe for age or even ID'd, even at 15/16/17.
If your worried about your friends going in and you not, always make sure your at the front/near the front of your group so if you get stopped for whatever reason, you can all go somewhere else - and virtually everywhere there are many somewhere else's...
