My friend and I will be in Interlaken for a week of skiing beginning 2/25. I am looking for a fun and able female to ski and see the town with. Any takers, I hear the runs are long and the beer is always cold!

Hello! Wont be there, I'm afraid, but I was there with my b/f in December, so just thought I'd drop you a line to say its gorgeous there! Interlaken aint too much cope, its not bad as little towns go, some good puds etc. Head up to Grindleward - its gorgeous! And Burg on the Piza gloria cable car thing - that starts at stechleburg I think. Bliming amazing views from the top! Recommend it! I'm very jeleous, would love to go back!

Have a fab time, let know know how the snow is doing! Where you staying? I stayed at Interlaken backpackers villa (www.villa.ch) - it was lovely. People really helpful and friendly, and rooms clean, nice with good views!

Take it easy!

The grindlewald first ski lift is 36 swiss francs. Thats about £15, not sure how much in usa dollars. You can get a place to stay somewhere nice for about 40 swiss francs, maybe a bit less if you dont stay in one of the nicest hostels! We had a mountain view room in the backpackers villa, www.villa.ch which was obviously more expensive! You can go up the schilthorn (piz gloria) for about 80 swiss francs - expensive but good ski runs, amazing views and loads of lovely places to eat and walk! You can hire out ski gear quite cheap - a lot of the hostels rent out skis and bored and tobogans etc, plus theres about a million hire shops, which arent to badly priced, ie ski trousers for about 20 swiss francs.

If anyone wants any more info let me know!

You'd have a fab time if you went!

Tamo, thanks for the info. I can't wait to get there! Which is the best place to ski, Wengen, murren, or gindelwald? I am staying at the hotel Rossli in interlaken, it is about $40 a night.

Jess, you ought to make it if you can. I'll buy the beer. Lift ticket is $140 US dollars for a week. Keep in touch, I want to hear about your other travels.

If you want ski plus all the extras (hops, restaurants, bars, pubs, cafes...) grindlewald probably the bestas its a fairly large resort. Murren is the most gorgeous little place half way up and mountain on the way to the schilthorn (or what ever its called) cute little town, and the views are amazing - the ski runs looked pretty wicked though, but we didnt do a lot there except stop for lunch! Not to sure about Wengen, as didnt go there! In my advice, do all of them! If youre there, you may aswell! Grindlewald probably has the most choice, as there are hundred of places you can get up onto the ski runs! We only went up to Grindlewald first though, as were there for 3 days! Do the lot I say!

Have you got a car for getting around? JUst a suggestion, but it might be worth hiring one rather than relying on public transport... its good out there, youre just slightly more restricted as to times and stuff... we got one from europe car for less than £200 for the 4 days, which wasnt bad at all!

Have a wicked time! Let me know how the runs are! Oh, and I'll try and remember the name of this wicked pub we went to!

Im not sure if you are interested or not...but I thought since I was just in Interlaken not long ago (a little 3 month excursion through Europe, that i just finished 4 days ago) I would share a few things I enjoyed.
1. The Funny Farm Hostel has a great little bar...its in this ridiculous looking mansion...and usually has a good mix of backpackers and locals.

2. Balmer's Hostel is pretty cool...but I would definitely recommend that for summer, not winter.

Have fun in Interlaken...and dont forget to take a good look at the surrounding mountains.

Jess, thanks for the info, I will for sure check out those hostels. I assure you I will also notice the mountains around me, there is nothing like natural beauty like that to move a person! Anyway, bummer you can't make it, I'll be sure to update you. Ken

Tams,

I will consider looking into a car, you may be right about convenience. Let me know if you think of the name of that pub. You will for sure get updates on all the runs. Ken
