Is it possible to get from Tulum to San Ignacio in one day?
Our flights are in and out of Cancun Int airport and on our trip we want to do San Ignacio area, Flores/Tikal and Caye Caulker. It looks like we will have to go through Belize City twice but everyone advises us to avoid having to stay there. So we are hoping we can get from Tulum to San Ignacio in one day and on the way back, from Flores to Caye Caulker in one day.
It's not only possible, it's not really even arduous. I've had experience with both routes and I don't remember it being horrible.
Remember that when you get to the Belize/Mexico border, you need to transfer buses in both directions.
You should start early, though...
Also, did you know that you can get a boat called the Thunderbolt into the Cayes from Corozal just across the Mexico/Belize border? It only leaves in the morning, as I recall, but you could loop into the Cayes and then go from there to San Ignacio, since you're going to the Cayes anyway.
We prefer to keeps the cayes til afer we have done san ignacio and flores/tikal so we will probably use thunderbolt on the way back. Does it go to Chetumal as well?
Do you have any recommendations on who we should get a bus with from tulum to san ignacio? does the same bus go all the way to Flores?
No, I have no suggestions to get you to the border. You will NOT get a bus from Tulum to San Ignacio. You`ll get to the border and then have to walk across the border and change buses.
