Hi Melissa,

I'm getting to melbourne on the 28th of feb, going out on my own, and staying in st kilda for at least a week. Staying at the base hostel. Going to be looking for the 3 months harvest work before settling down somewhere near a beach! haha. I wouldn't worry about going west first, unless you actually want to. I'm sure queensland will be fine when you get there.

Ah yes! That is exactly what I want to do. Settling near a beach would be ideal! I think you're right about Queensland, having looked into it continually it seems like they do a pretty good job of cleaning things up. The only things I have to worry about now are silly worries like what shoes to take!
Thanks for your help

Hi!
As long as you're insured and there is nothing important that isn't already backed up on your laptop (in case you lose it) then I don't see any reasons not to take it other than the weight of lugging it about everywhere. For this reason I am investing in a netbook which weighs just more than a bag of sugar and is pretty ideal for stowing away in a backpack! Battery life is also an issue, but only for places that are really remote.
When taking electronics you have to remember that they come with accessories of their own, i.e. chargers and special plug sockets so that you can use it out there. I can't live without my ipod, so I'm taking that as well as a netbook and a *very* cheap mobile phone that will just be for basic needs.

I hope this helps!
