Anybody know the major (cheapest) routes btwn Europe and N.Africa (planes or boats)? Looking at air prices from US, it seems more economical to fly to Europe and cross than fly direct to anywhere in northern africa. i dont have any ideas where ill be backpacking, but ill have about 2 months but not much money, so getting there cheap is crucial. thanks.
Travel by plane from Spain, for instance, to Morocco is relatively expensive having in consideration that it is not far.
The most boat/ferry routes between Spain and Morocco are: Algeciras (Spain mainland) to Sebta/Ceuta (Spanish possesion in Africa) or Algeciras to Tanger (Morocco). Try http://www.trasmediterranea.es for details and prices.
If the aim is North Africa, best bets almost always work out at flying to one of the big 4 hubs (Paris/London/Amsterdam/Frankfurt) and then onward to a point in Southern Spain - from London for example, lots of very chgeap flights to places like Malaga, which is spitting distance to Morocco - or fly to Madrid and go down from there overland. The cheapest and most frequent boats leave from Algeciras to Morocco (Tangier is the main point of entry, Ceuta which is a spanish enclave is the other standard route), and it's normally thé easiest and cheapest route.
