Well, may I suggest you look at overseas rates compared to the UK's. You'll be pleasantly surprised - and then realise what a rip-off UK For-Ex rates are.

Erm ok Flyingbob. As expressed, just speaking from personal experience. I know when I go back to Ireland the rate isn't as good as with No.1.

Erm OK.

Clearly you two have had rather different experiences with this!
I'm definately get at least a little bit changed here, just so I have at least something with me from the start. I don't want to enter the country with no cash at all. If it is considerably cheaper to get it changed abroad I'll obviously do that for the bulk of it though.
The only other thing I'm thinking is that even if the rates are better abraod, any savings might be cancelled out by bank fees. Could be six of one, half a dozen of the other.

Ha ha Daniel

I just find his comments a tad offensive-he's very sharp with his comments. Each to their own.

I'm sure you'll sort it! Best of luck.

Sorry to break up this argument but it is not useful to Daniel in any way. Either have something of value to offer or leave the thread alone. Cazzyhugs has just offered up information about her own personal experiences. I do realize those involved have strong opinions but let's keep it civil. I have deleted the last entry because it was inflammatory in nature. I do not expect to come back and find more of the same. The rules are very simple: play nice, be helpful and treat each other with respect regardless if you agree with their opinion or not.

Daniel, my apologies for having to post this in your thread.

Isa now returns this thread to it's regularly scheduled topic. ;)

No need to apologize.

Back on topic, I've done some comparisons with a few UK and NZ companies (NZ being the major part of my trip).
xe.com has the market rate as 1GBP = 2.09NZD

1. TravelEx (UK) - 1GBP = 2.01NZD
2. Post Office (UK) - 1GBP = 2.00NZD
3. TravelEx (NZ) - 1GBP = 1.98NZD
=. Westpac (NZ) - 1GBP = 1.98NZD
=. ASB (NZ) - 1GBP = 1.98NZD
6. BNZ (NZ) - 1GBP = 1.97NZD
7. No. 1 Currency (UK) - 1GBP = 1.96NZD
8. M&S (UK) - 1GBP = 1.95NZD

Interesting! Poor show from M&S, 500GBP would get me 32NZD extra with TravelEx.
