What is the best way to get between these two places. I will be travelling from Athens to Fethiye in the south of Turkey. I do not mind stopping in Istanbul if that is necessary.
I have an interrail pass. If alternative methods of transport are required, how much would you envisage them costing?
I haven't been to either greece or turkey yet so I don't know how useful my help will be!! But anyways in Aug/September this year we are travelling between those two places. We disembark a gulet at Fethiye and are going to greece from there. The turkish travel group we have been speaking to said ferry's from either Fethiye or Marmaris to Rhodes are quite easy and cheap to get. From there we have decided to ferry it up through the cyclades to athens. Hope this is any help!
Check turkish airlines. They fly from Athens and sometimes there are good deals to Southwest cities of Turkey. Ferry to rhodes isa nopther option,.
I would suggest taking a ferry across - if you have the time, that is. It's bound to be cheaper and you'll see more from sea level than 7 miles above it. I think it would be more memorable, and that's why you're there, right?
Besides, you can also imagine the colossus of Rhodes that towered the harbor in the island of Rhodes some centuries back.
I have travelled Marmaris to Rhodes for a day trip and I think it cost about £45 (return). If you took the ferry to Marmaris then you may be able to get a bout to Fethiye, if not, the buses are very cheap, they have the local buses (dolmus) translated this means stuffed and you will see why when you get there. They also have coach travel which is reasonably priced, I use Pamukkale coachs when I do long journeys for the comfort. Fethiye is around 2 hours by car from Marmaris, so may take a bit longer by dolmus.
Hope this helps
