tats a good idea, i think some of those hostels can organise transport from airport and all so tat would be one less thing to think about :-) was looking at spinners and governor ones on web.
when my friend came back from a year in Oz, she went to Thailand for a month and the pictures were fab, not sure if i saw pics of Phi Phi island but i can just imagine how nice it is there :-) i cant wait, wish i could go sooner but gotta save, am going work up until I go

When u said that there were new jobs going up every hour, what site were you on??

Def look into getting a hostel for the first few days, everything else will fall into place (says the one who has nothing done haha) :) if you decide to go to melbourne i was looking up hostels, the main place for backpackers is st. kilda base backpackers hostel! its meant to be the most outgoing and theres a bar and all downstairs so that will make it easier to meet people!

Im saving away the whole time and have picked the 2nd week in May to head off, prob the 8th or 9th im thinking!!

thanks aoife, ill look up tat hostel if i head to melbourne first. everybody recommends different cities so im really not sure where to head to first. i suppose i not too pushed, hopefully ill get to each of them during the time im there anyway :-)
found tat price on, just put in shannon to perth, 10th May cos thinking of heading around that week and its 550 euros (one way cos i havent a clue of return date so maybe best just to get one way)
shannon is closer to me but im sure if you are going from dublin, the flights would even be cheaper - always more expensive to go anywhere from shannon :-(

hey ciara - great tat u will have someone to stay with when you first go out. tat would be less nerve wrecking, least they can give u some tips. do u know if Brisbane has much work going? i planning on heading to perth or melbourne. I ve heard alot of work in Perth but then again the other cities like melbourne, brisbane etc are nearer to each other, it wud be easier to travel from one to the other. are u going on a working holiday visa too?

hey girls
ya must find out tat jobs site too, havent really looked into job sites yet at all but it wud be handy to know what kind of jobs are available.
have ye seen the Oz Intro thing? (just google OzIntro) looks great for ppl heading over on their own - they organise loads like bank acc, tax number, first weeks accom, plenty of things to do with other ppl who have just arrived. the reviews are really good and alot are saying they ended up travelling with people tat they met up with during tat first week. but so far, i can only find it for Sydney but not other cities.
Totally agree with u Leona, i was way more nervous before i heard from ye :-) so thx :-) its made me feel alot better about going

Im actually nearer shannon as well fi, im from galway but just assumed id have to go from Dublin. Ill look into that later! Im the same, still havent decided where ill fly into!!

Leona, I think ill go with usit as well to be honest because at least ill know ill get everything sorted. What visa did u go for, was it the essentials package or the other one??

Counting down the weeks already, i love it :)

Hey Aoife

I went with the Essentials pack and one way flight, got it all for less than 1000 so i was delighted with that!! The basic package isnt enough and the more expensive had stuff I just dont need!!
June is as cheap as May, I just needed the extra month for saving, how much are you planning on bringing with you?
yeah ive my ticket pinned to my wall and a calander marking down the days, when I hung it up i had 24 weeks:( down to 18now
Helps me stay focused when my friends are going out and I need to stay in to save!!
