I have booked my flights to Peru, i'm going to be spending the whole of July there and want to explore as much as possible while im there.

I have already booked the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu but i'm researching other places and things I want to do while there and thought the best way would be to ask people who have been there, done that so to speak!

Anyway is there anywhere that I should/shouldnt go?

Any tips or advice?

I found Arequipa to be a wonderful city to explore in Peru, and it makes for a great halfway point to Cuzco, when thinking about altitude acclimatization (height is much more important in Peru than pure distance).
If you enjoy hiking, I can also thoroughly recommend visiting the Cordillera Blanca - Laguna 69 is truly stunning. (I based myself in Caraz for that, which worked okay for the first few days (and I quite like the town; looked much better than what I saw of Huarez when the bus drove through), but after that I'd lost too much of my altitude acclimatization (since Caraz is over 2000 meter below the best hikes), so if you'd want to spend more than ~4 days or so in the Cordillera Blanca, I'd look out for a different place to base yourself at.
