Does driving across 25 countries, in 6 weeks, whet your travelling appetite?! If so, then please read on...

Team 'Between a Yak and a Hard Place' on this year's Mongol Rally could do with an extra body or two! Currently, there are just two of us, which is perfectly fine, but we'd like to share this epic adventure with a couple more intrepid travellers!

We aim to complete the (approximately!) 10,000 mile journey in a second-hand ambulance, which we will donate upon our arrival. We're hopeful that sponsorship can be sought to cover the cost of purchasing the ambulance, along with some essential supplies. We're also aiming to raise £500 each for The Christina Noble Children's Foundation and Ronald McDonald House Charities, through fundraising events and donations.

Our route will take us across Europe and Asia, from Goodwood in the UK to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, through the following countries: UK, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Iraq? (Kurdistan), Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan? (only a few hundred metres across the border, technically no-man's land before the border posts), Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Russia and finally Mongolia!

The facts

  • We leave on 23rd July 2011 and should be able to return by 5th September 2011.
  • Costs are likely to be around £2500 per person, unless we are lucky enough to find commercial sponsorship which extends beyond the costs of purchasing the ambulance. This includes estimated costs for visas, return flight, vaccinations, travel insurance, food, a few overnight stays in major cities, fuel, carnet for Iran, rally entry fee, ferry crossings, car insurance and border 'fees'!

If you are interested in joining us, then please don't hesitate to send me a message! :)

Many thanks,

Josh Hadfield
Team 'Between a Yak and a Hard Place'

Wow, that sounds amazing! I'm half tempted to cut my round the world trip short and go with you guys! Unfortunately I'm not due back until October. Best of luck with the rally and hope you find a good team! (great team name btw).

Thanks tmac, it's a shame that you can't make it. Enjoy your RTW!

Funnily enough, I'm thinking of doing the Mongolian Rally but my driver pulled out! Have been deliberating whether to do it alone and pick up rides along the way (especially as I'm a girl.)

I was hoping to do it for 1500 and trans-siberian express it back.

Anyway, email me and we'll take it from there!

Alison :-)

Hi guys. I see this post has been up for over a week, and thus assume that, with the unrivalled allure the mongol rally has, that u've probably already managed to fill ur spots.

However, I thought it worth offering myself to take an available place with you guys, if it's still going.

I had already signed up myself with a mate, but he's backing out.

As a result I'm finding it difficult to find replacement people who meet the somewhat particular criteria of being prepared to spend their summer in this way, being able to fund the cost of it, and being able to spend this length of time away from normal life; which are all required for the mongol rally. So i've been left on my lonesome, and was hoping I may be able to shoe-horn my way into another team, if there's still enough room left between your 'yack' and 'hard place' for one more?

Dan :)
