My girlfriend and I will be in Venice and Rome during Valentine's. I plan on proposing to her but don't know where. I want it to be as romantic as possible. Would Venice or Rome be better? In Venice, I've read that the top of Campanile Tower overlooking the Piazza San Marco would be a great spot, but it doesn't look all that nice from pictures. St Mark's Square has been recommended but some say it's too crowded. Rialto Bridge at sunrise or sunset is supposed to be a great spot. Under the Bridge of Sighs in a gondola with singers and an accordian player...but will that be difficult to plan and I've read that it may be risk with the possibility of the ring falling into the water. I really don't know. Or would Rome be better (we'll be in Venice first)? Also, what are the spots that we must see?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your help.
I cant hlep but I hope she says yes!!
Piazza San Marco is beautiful, so I would have to agree that would be a great spot. I don't want to burst your bubble about the gondola, but the canals are kind of stinky in Venice. It obviously depends on how hot it is, and if you wantto chance it go for it, but that was one of the first things I noticed about Venice (other than the fact that it is a beautiful city!). But that idea is very cute as well. And it would be more private than in busy San Marco.
In Rome, Trevi fountain is beautiful(at night it's all lite up), but, again, very busy with tourists. There is one really beautiful bridge along the Tiber...I believe that it is Ponte Vittorio Emanuele II or Ponte San Angelo. I've tried looking for pictures of them on the internet, but I can't find any close up shots.
I hope some of this info helps with your decision. Either way, remember, it's all about you and her, everything else is just scenery.
I hope she says yes!
Trevi fountain, Rome, at around 11 or 12 in the evening, its beautifully lit, not too busy at that time, the streets are normally quiet at that time, ......
.... i hope everything works out,
no matter how or where you propose she will still love you for it...
ps - its really sweet that you want it to be so nice ! ( my best friends boyfriend said it to her in passing when they were watching men behaving badly, )
Venice IS stinky! but if u walk around late at night when most of the tourists are gone to bed it is really romantic. i think whoever suggested Piazza San Marco was right. As for the top of the Campanile, the view of the water and the square below is nice but it's only open during the day and it's really crowded (only a few ppl can fit at a time up there)....not a great spot to propose really. San Marco is lovely at night.....i'd choose there for atmosphere.
Or in rome, i'd say the piazza in front of the Pantheon (again at night). there's are lots of little cafes spilling out on the piazza - there's usually guys playing music and you;ve got a pretty impressive ancient building right in front of you. it's a really beautiful spot. and you;re guaranteed a round of applause if you get down on one knee, i'd say!
