Can anyone recommend any cheap accommodation in Rarotonga, preferably of the beach hut/beach bungalow variety?

Also any recommendations on things to do other than swimming, snorkeling and diving?

Hey Bex!

Do you want the real 'hutty' variety, or more like a little house? Margit and me stayed in a great little place on the Titikaveeka side in 2006, but it was more 'housey'. There were a few places nearby that looked more like huts though, and there was a guesthouse across the road that had a friendly owner and was well priced.

Other than swimming/snorkeling/diving, there's a good hike you can do across the island (climb the mountain in the middle, and then down on the other end). I also did some fishing, but erm, it was mostly relaxing, swimming and snorkeling ;)

Any particular side you are looking to stay on?

ps. I'm jealous... I loved the Cooks!

Hey Sam i Am

how much did you pay per night for that pad??!! looks lush!
DO you have web linkage for us?

Had a look at flights to akiutiki too they are about 200 min return... is it worth it??

I honestly can't remember what we paid, but I remember thinking back then that it could have been worse :) Actually I just found it on rentraro (which I used for research purposes back then too) and it seems like it's become quite a bit more expensive.

We never made it out to Aitutaki, but everyone I talked to said it was totally worth it!

Thanks Sam; that looks gorgeous but we are probably looking for somewhere a little cheaper, so maybe more hut than house. We are not bothered which side we stay on though so I'll have a look into the other accommodation you mentioned on the Titikaveeka side.

I can't wait - it looks stunning!

I can't seem to find the name of that guesthouse anymore... my memory says Papa Reys or something like that?! This place is also pretty close to where we were. Mind you, there is more happening closer to the Muri area (also a little more choice restaurant wise), and the beaches are probably nicer there, though a little busier. I didn't think beaches were busy at all though, anywhere on the island! That rentraro site might have a few more options as well.
