Hi all,

I'm 31 and also going to Oz on a WHV, in September. I really hope I'm not classed as "old" am I?! haha

I went travelling to Latin America last year with a tour group and I was the oldest, the average age was about 19. It didn't really make a difference, apart from the odd joke at my expense (like "Tracy - how was clubbing in the 80's???!) I also later joined another tour group and was the youngest and felt a bit immature to be honest! So it can go both ways! Age is just a state of mind I guess.

Totally agree with Pablo79, as you can't get a WHV after 30, I thought why not, it's the only chance I will have for the rest of my life. I bet there are plenty of older travellers who have missed the boat and feel like us 'young uns' are lucky!!

As for jobs, we're likely to have more work/life experience to bring to the table than some younger travellers, may well work in our favour.

Hey , Jo,
don't worry, you share your experiences like this, and develop friends. :):):)

thank you

@ tom
cool - yeah would be good if we could meet up perhaps - I will look at that package with the work and travel company - am thinking of doing something like that anyway as I am pretty clueless - esp on my own!

@tracy2011

maybe we could stay in touch too and meet up - would be cool to meet someone my age!

you all sound so confident though - where i am not :(

thanks for your help

i really wouldnt worry im 25 and age wouldnt make any difference to me meeting ppl whether they were a lot older or really young,...age is only a number! xxx

Yeah sure, we should stay in touch, I'm starting in Cairns mid Sept then am staying in Sydney for Xmas/New Year, but apart from that I don't have any set plans. Going to go with the flow!

I've been travelling on my own a few times before so I guess confidence grows, but there are things I'm scared of believe me, esp as I'm giving up my job/house etc to go on this trip! And as the saying goes - "It's not brave if you're not scared!"

Brilliant I would like to have made a few friends before I go out there.

The date I said on my visa app (which I have just applied for, ahh!)

do I have to stIck rigid to that date do u know?

I'm going to try for a sabbatical from work but if not then I'll just leave x

Nah, I think they just ask for an arrival date so they have a vague idea of possible arrival numbers. The date you stated doesnt appear anywhere on the visa, only your latest possible arrival date. I put June on my application but decided to give myself a few more months to save up!

Well it was granted within the hour!

Also it asked to put what kind of work.

I said other as it depends what kind of work I get!!

Wish I could save but I don't really earn enough!

Excited now but so much to do!

Hope I find some people to hang with x

I'm 32 and heading to New Zealand in May for a year's work visa. I had this concern as well but figured it wasn't a big deal. Hey, there's no age limit to exploring! Have a great time!

It's still scary tho.

I suppose I just think of travellers as young and in their teens or twentys :)
