aMeliA. has indicated that this thread is about Vietnam

Hi there, I'm a 20 year old female and I'm planning to head northern vietnam coming mid-july for a week.

This is the 1st time I'm backpacking alone and also the 1st time I'm visiting Vietnam.

I've read up a little and it seems that Hanoi, Sapa and Halong Bay are the few must not miss areas.

I'm also interested in visiting HCMC but because the trip is only a week, I'm not sure if it will be too rush to squeeze HCMC in since travelling south is going to take up quite some time.

Would greatly appreciate it if anyone of you could give me some suggestions to aid in my planning!(:

I think Hanoi, Sapa and Halong Bay are already too much for a short 1 week visit let alone trying to fit in HCMC as well, but that's just me, I'm not a fast traveller.

I think Vietnam will set your pace for you once arrive.

Have fun.

Cheers,
Terry

Hi there

I have been to Vietnam in 2008 / 2009 for about 1 month. After what I have seen I would suggest you to focus either on Hanoi or on HCMC. One week is very short. Can't you stay longer. To get an insight into Hanoi 3-4 days would be great. So you can give yourself some time to explore the city without being in a constant rush.

Halong Bay was a bit disappointing for me: too much touristic and also too cold (it was a cold Winter when I was there). The scenary though is very nice and if you are on a small boat you can have a great time.

If you focus on HCMC then 3 days are enough, unless you also like going to all different kind of places like me. The Tunnels close to HCMC are also touristic but it's worth seeing them.

Sa Pa is nice as well. However it takes you a night (if you go by train) to get there and to go back to Hanoi. And in Sa Pa two nights are worth it, also not to be too much in a hurry.

Well. see if you can spend some more time then one week or go to Vietnam on another tour, not?! ;-)

Hope I could help you a little

friendly, Pascal
