Isn't this - like, come to think about it, pretty much every single thread you've started - a wee bit off-topic for a travel forum? Anyway, the CPU doesn't make noise; it's probably the standard fan for cooling it which makes noise, as it'll be the default one, which is too small and rotating too fast. Installing a bigger fan - something like a Nexus 120mm Real Silent Case Fan (assuming you have the space for it in your case) - would go a long way to reducing noise.

@OP - If you mean the "fan-like" noise then yes, it's the fan.

If you mean the "scratchy" type sound then that's the hard drive doing it's thing. I think you can get hard drive sound dampners (not sure what they're actually called) for desktops but for laptops I'm not sure.

Note: If your hard drive is making a LOT of "scratchy" noises - BACK UP YOUR DATA... This could be a sign that your HDD is about to give out.
