Wondered if it would be nice to have individual Avatars for members. It would brighten up the board a bit. I appreciate it uses up more bandwith. But perhaps a size limitation (as is now the case on other boards) would keep it in line. Maximum file size say ,25kb and Max scale 80x100 pixels. How does anyone else feel about that? It's nice to have some individual expression, because the board is very plain in some areas.
I've no objections providing there is an option not to have them displayed. They have them on a few forums i frequent, and without exception i've always just turned them off when i joined and since ignored them! For me personally, they quickly loose the novelty value but more relevantly, the hamster in my PC is now too old to run quickly enough to display them with any sort of speed (i.e. a page before the next millennium).
I tend to go along with Gelli. I find avatars a bit gimmicky. TP members could possibly be encouraged to upload a picture of him or herself in their own personal photo gallery.
I have to agree they're funny at the start but they become annoying very quickly, especially if i'm trying to prevent my computer from crashing ......
and Wocca - as for photos, that could be a funny or scary idea depending on how you see it....
Some other sites with avatars aren't as user-friendly as TP. Well done guys for keeping it simple
At the risk of sounding computer illiterate, I had to look up what "avatar" meant...
I agree with Wocca. The simpler the better! As they say in advertising: it'a a lot more difficult but a lot more meaningful to keep it simple. Or something like that.
Yeah, I've got to agree with the majority on here, I'm not a fan of avatars. Yes, they are fun, but the ones that move around a lot just become annoying. TP is great just the way it is! Awwwww, group hug!
Avatars? Don't care either way. Too many options, etc can become confusing.
