I am considering taking a transit flight from my country of departure into Jordan and then to Israel. Since Jordan will be my transit point, do I need to apply for a visa from the Jordanian government?
How are transit flights like? What do I need to know about transit flights? Do I need to collect my luggage and then check-in for my next flight into Israel?
I might be taking Royal Jordanian.
You will most likely have to buy a JOD 10 (EUR 10) visa at the immigration counter. It is very simple, basically you will just have to buy a stamp. So, no extra process, application is required. Have some change in any of the major currencies so you can exchange just enough to buy the stamp.
Typically, if you want to transit and you continue flying with the same airline, you will pick up your luggage at the final destination. In rare cases, you will have to collect your bags and check-in again. Best to check it with the airline.
the above applies if you are eligible to obtain visa on arrival.
best to check on wikipedia website: type into google "visa requirements for x nationals"
or read http://wikitravel.org/en/Jordan#Get_in
if you want to save money on the flight, you can also travel overland onto israel. above wiki page will give you more info.
