watching the sunset over an oasis in the middle of the desert with my boyfriend at the end of a long day of hiking, total peace and quiet and an air of ''yes we got here and its worth it'' it was a great feeling to just sit and relax and watch the sun fall gracefully..

Another pretty special moment that I can remember was when I was camping in Yosemite, California a few years ago. The people I was with had gone to bed, I couldnt sleep so I left the tent and went outside to what was left of the dying fire. I stretched out on my back on a big log and looked up at the stars. The air was really warm and all you could hear were the crickets (coming from Ireland, listening to crickets was a bit of a novelty for me) and some guy snoring in a tent a few feet away.

in the distance i noticed what seemed to be a really bright light in the V between two mountains. i stared at for ages wondering what it was - it seemed as if a Monster Truck with huge lights was about to appear on the horizon....the light became brighter and brighter and then very slowly the biggest, brightest moon I have ever seen began to rise in the sky.

it was pretty cool.

One of the most amazing/happiest experience i ever had was during my trip around Galapagos Island, the fourth day we visited an island named Santa Fe, there are a lot of wild and endemic animals, a lots of sea lion - one of them, a baby sea lion came to me and started to smell me: my feet, my leg - then he got my hands with his mouth, I didn't move I just was watching him because one of the Galapagos rules is "Do not touch or handle the animals" (coz they will quickly become fearful and lose their remarkable fearlessness if they are approached by human) - suddenly a tourist endemic guide broke the moment saying don't touch him, it's against the rules...I said, I'm not touching him, he is!!! Then she explained me the baby sea lion was looking for her mom "if I let him to smell you, he will think you’re his mom and then he will looking for you all around the island and probably die of sadness"...after that i run toward my boat, in this moment i saw many people taking me pictures I couldn't understand why until I looked back - the baby sea lion was running after me saying mom, mom, mom!!!!! I am not kidding this baby was thinking i was his mum...Oh I turned towards him and just wanted to hug and kiss him but was impossible, I just said "good-bye baby" and then boarded...BUUUUUUUU!!! I left my baby there....Lobito i won't never forget you!

PD: I got a nice photo of this magic moment...

I really enjoyed reading this thread, hopefully now that's its moving back to the top of the list some other people will post there experiences here. I'll post some of mine soon.

The story quoted above reminded me of an similar experience I had in the Galapogos. My sea lion was not so friendly or innocent. I was in the water (knee deep) taking some pictures of marine iquanas. Before entering the water I had placed my camera bag on the sand next to a cliff.

Anyway, the trouble began when I started coming back out of the water and toward my camera bag. A LARGE male sea lion thought I was invading his territory and gonna go for some of his "girlfriends". Every time I tried to go toward my camera bag he would sort of attach me (a warning that I took seriouly because this guy was big and not not in a very good mode). There was no way for me to get to my bag because the cliff was on one side and he was on the other. Some of the guides tried to distract him but he wasn't going for it. This went on for quite a while (to the amusement of all but me). Finally, he let me get my bag (as long as I didn't mess with his harem)and everyone lived "happily ever after."

Happiest: eating dinner on the beach in Dahab with my brother after fulfilling two of my life's dreams (visiting the pyramids and Petra)

Most Spiritual: being the first one at the top of Mt. Sianai for sunrise after an amazing midnight hike and being in the Old City of Jerusalem on a Friday night.

I'll never forget peeing while watching the clouds clear over Torres del Paine, as the sun was going down! They was a "spiritual pee."

Songpan, China.
I walked to the top a mountain where there was a small abandoned monastry and meditated, then i had a chat with the mountains.
Sounds wrong, but i did.
