HIYA. .
This is only my second post on Travellers point and seems like a very busy thread with good info.

Any help on my confusing situation would be great. . . Me and my friend arrive in Sydney 24th November after travelling 2months in East Asia.

We want to book into hostel for first wee while but plan on staying in Sydney until after New Year. I think it would be pretty pricey to stay in Hostel for this amount of time and wonder what would be the best way to accomodate???

ANY info would be great.

Thanks
Fi and Carly :o) x

Fi and Carly, do you have a weekly budget in mind of what you are prepared to spend on accommodation? As most places bump their prices up for Christmas and New Year and are probably booked out already.

Aside from Couchsurfing, I think you will be hard pushed to find anywhere cheaper than hostels. A good alternative though - I stayed in a place called Ashfield Manor for three months in Sydney. It is 10 minutes on the train from Central Station, and they do weekly rates of $250 (that is for a single – you could probably get a twin even cheaper), which includes breakfast. As I said this is for your own room, unlike a hostel where even a dorm will probably be just as expensive at this time, and it is very nice.

Hi Steve, Fiona here.

Thanks for replying so quick. Not sure on weekly budget as of yet but keeping an openmind as I know everywhere will be more expensive at this time.

Just trying to think what would be easier. Hostel for few months or apartment (or) like you suggested, something like Ashfield Manor. Decisions, Decisions.

I was looking for an apartment for three months and had trouble finding one for that short period of time, hence why I ended up living at Ashfield Manor.

I guess it depends what you are happy with, I love hostels and they are a fantastic way of meeting people, but three months sharing a dorm would have driven me crazy!

Yeh three months sharing a dorm with 8 other people sounds does sound a bit much haha.

Would really like to get into a flat share but again were also worried about the short period of time we will be needing it and if someone would be willing to accept this.

I suppose we will find out when we get there :)
