What's your best excuse for being sick when you don't want to go to work ?

Hey Wocca,

I like your topics. The right thing for the bored mind!

I never took sick days from work so far, I just can't lie and would feel bad. And it's too much hassle to ring in, I hate making phone calls.
But I used to be a Teamleader and I heard some good ones.
The best thing is if you're a girl and you've a got a male boss. Then just use some specifically female problem which your supervisor would find too embarassing to ask you about when you come back.

Don't use the old tummy bug, that's just shouting "Sicky", even if it's genuine.

Yeah, I also hate to lie about being sick. Luckily, I get to accumulate overtime in a bank of hours here, so I can take the occasional day off now and then. It actually makes for a much better vacation plan than what's on paper.

The best (or worst) excuse I've heard so far was from a guy who said he couldn't come in because he swallowed the toothpick in his club sandwhich. I don't think he fully thought that one through.

one of the guys here said he ran over a dog and had to bring it the vet, he had us all feeling sorry for him and the dog till we met his girlfriend who told us that they had an all day session in the pub...

I told my bossin the student union I had contracted a rare travelling disease when I went to Greece. It was actually 2 months since I had been, didnt get a thing other than hungover but they beleived me and let me have the night off.
I got so wasted that night that I ended up in the union forgetting that i should have been working.... I still kept my job!

There were two really nice hot days this summer in Ireland. We dont get that many here so I decided to pull a sicky from work. The Galway Oyster Festival was on the wknd jsut before so i rang in on the Monday and told my boss I'd had some dodgy oysters - he bought it. Acutally happened his friend two yrs before apparently!

That reminds, am not sure if that story is true, though, Nikki you can confirm.

Years ago there a few people getting from the chips served in the cantine and a lot of other people used the situation and claimed to be sick as well, although they didn't even have chips!

that was about 5 years ago and it happened with two people but they were found out nearly straight away...

Ah well, it's the thought that counts.
