i'm trying to decide which the best way to travel up the east coast, either with greyhound or oz experience.

i'm spending xmas and new yr in sydney, then off travelling up the east coast, and hoping to find fruit picking work by the time i reach cairns.

Although i've heard that the oz experience only has one bus a day, which i think it will be pretty busy during summer time and i dont want to be hanging around for an extra day just so i can jump on the bus although i have no time limit to finish by.

is anyone travelling around the same time??

the Oz experience looks like a laugh and has some extras but im sure greyhound offer the same sort of trips!

Greyhound is about £150 cheaper!!!

hope someone can help :);)

i can only talk from experience of the greyhound, but i think its the perfect way to travel, more than one bus per day(for most destinations),some longer journeys can be travelled over night, you still meet like minded travellers. Its not like oz ex where you have activities thrown in though, but i think its best to arrange these on your on and get the best deals. plus if you buy a kilometre pass from greyhound you can exchange kms for activities along the east coast like diving, skydiving ect.

Greyhound definitely.

I've met backpackers that say the Oz Experience is good fun and partyish, but it's actually the East Coast of Australia which is fun and partyish. The transport you use to get you up the coast isn't really what makes it fun. It's the going out every night and meeting sound new people that makes it fun.

So I definitely wouldn't recommend paying quite a bit extra to have less buses a day and less stop-offs.

I had the same problem, but after looking into it i've decided Greyhound is the way to go :)

I think you have more of a choice with greyhound :)

It's pretty much a similar route but Greyhound have a few more small towns and stuff that they stop at.

I love the Greyhound. Its used by Aussies. OzExp is full of tourists.

Hi again, I'm travelling up the East Coast of Australia now and two backpackers I met tipped me off about another bus company which is cheaper again called Premier Motor Service. Just as a comparison to go from Byron Bay up to Cairns for a backpacker costs:

Oz Experience - $460
Greyhound - $285
Premier - $236

...so Premier saved me $49. They don't have as many buses as Greyhound (2 or 3 from Sydney to Brisbane, then 1 or 2 per day from Brisbane to Cairns) but they're still worth checking as all the buses I've took so far have been ideal times (during the day for the first few legs, then one overnight journey which saved a night's accommodation).

You can book your journeys online or ring up and they seem pretty good so far.
