I moved a few threads from the wiki travelguide forum to other forums....weeks ago! The original ones are still there at the travelguide forum, but when I want to remove those, it gives an error.
Can somebody delete those or tell me what is wrong or what I did wrong?
Yeah, at the moment they stay in the original forum, even if moved... but this has been getting worse lately, and especially on some forums it sometimes looks like there is just moved threads on the first page... I actually took this up with Peter yesterday, and noticed someone else entered it in their survey requests, so guessing it's going to be dealt with pretty soon
Ok, never mind, i had a post here saying they were gone now. Thought they were gone, but still there. My bad.
A week is long enough I guess. Thanks anyway!

Do you think they should even show up for a week though? I don't really see the point of even that now that I have thought about this some more over the past few weeks. Just make them show in the new location, and if anyone still has the old link it will show what it always has, but not show in the list of forum threads.
What do you reckon?
I can imagine people check the specific forum (for example Asia) first and sometimes people wait for replies and come back like after several days.
Not sure about the exact time frame of course, but at least some days seems reasonable.
Hmm, yes, I guess maybe that might occur, though if there were replies those would show under the new location. It's tricky, because especially on a mobile screen having more clutter there really just doesn't make sense.
Will have to take this up with the tech master himself
Mind if I weigh in?
I don't see where the moved threads should stay in the original forum for more than a day or two at most. GT is becoming cluttered with 'MOVED' threads but I (and I'm sure Bex) have been uncomfortable just deleting them. Once in a blue moon, an OP will reply in their original post, asking where it has gone. (Ummm, read the bottom line in the original thread...)
If I'm not mistaken, the original poster is auto-subscribed and will receive e-mails unless they have clicked that off. If their thread is moved, they should be able to find it. again, I do not see keeping the old 'misplaced' post on the forums indefinitely as useful.
Something that isn't useful at all with moved threads, is that they also appear on the "all threads/all forums" view - which nowadays is the default view when you choose forums on the main menu. Just the thread at it's new location needs to be shown on this view really.

Guilty, I guess
Erm, better late than never, but just uploaded new code that gets rid of all the MOVED: threads on all the forums. There really was no/very little point to them. In reality what happens when a thread is moved is that the old thread is changed to the correct new forumid. Then simultaneously a new thread is created in the old forumid which just has the text that it's been moved. I guess this was always intended for the original poster, but there's really a lot better ways for them to find their old threads than trawling through the main forum pages. Especially after we started including the "My Topics" on the right, it really gets rid of any reason to still do it this way.
Now, in reality we are still doing it the old way, but none of the newly created threads saying MOVED will now be shown
