Hello everyone,

In August I'm off to work in Kuruman (about 3hrs away from Upington) for the year, and I was wondering if anybody could recommend any places of interest in the area? I think I get the odd week off now and then, so would be somewhat limited as to how far afield I could go...I'm aware of Kgalagadi NP, Namaqualand, and Augrabies falls. Any advice for places which I may have overlooked would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,
Ben

Hi Ben,

That's a long way from anywhere, but great to be in the middle of nowhere sometimes isn't it?
I remember passing that town during my late 2009 trip to South Africa, but had to look at google maps exactly to see about the distances.
The reason is that I was about to recommend both Pilanesberg NP and Madikwe NP. However, they seem to be located much further away again. Still, Kgalagadi is hours away as well, so with a week it surely would make sense to combine the parks I mentioned.
Although I haven't been there, Kimberley might be an escape if you want to 'big city' feel..:)

If you have more questions about the parks or Kgalagadi as well (nice one, don't miss it!), please feel free to ask (or send me a PM). Otherwise, you can check my South Africa photos if you like, the first 1.5 weeks are in the region you mentioned.

Cheers and enjoy!

Michael.
