Quoting DBusby

I am visiting at the end of June. Is it worth getting a tour guide? Or is it better to wonder around on your own?

Also, where's the nearest train station?

Thanks.

don't bother with tour guides...they move so slow and especially in auschwitz everything is marked so well it's uneeded...if you really want you can kind of listen in on a group.

you get the bus to auschwitz from the train station. takes a little over an hour to get there.

don't forget the other great things to see in krakow...the castle, old jewish quarter, the square....ahh I love that city.

Haven't been to Auschwitz but have been to Dachau in Germany & Terezin in the Czech Republic. Very eerie & emotional places, the range of feelings depends on the individual I guess. But I felt sad, scared, disgusted, ill & just plain mind blown really that this occured. Having a Grandfather who fought in both WW1 & WW2, made me extremely proud of him for going over there & helping..
