Hi there guys,

I am planning on going to Oz at the start of june, just sent away for my visa today so as soon as thats sorted i'll be able to book everything else up.
Im spending the first week in Sydney with UtlimateOz - this group seemed like they had a great deal, really suited me and had great reviews.

I know it will be winter when i go over, so was just wondering where the best place would be to go to pass the winter months? going over on a WHV so will also be looking to work, are there any suggestions for good places to work over winter/spring and also just any hints tips or anything you think might help me out?

I'm a first time traveller going across by myself, quite nervous however am quite reassured by others posts saying how great a time they had!

thank you very much,

p.s also if anyones going over round about this time and would like to travel/meet up let me know! will be in sydney at first then moving to wherever has a job! :)

Hi Rosie,

It's probably best to head north from Sydney up the coast and spend winter somewhere in Queensland. In terms of finding a job Sydney is probably a good place to look but it's not a great place to be in winter, I'd look in the major towns along the QLD coast, Brisbane, Townsville and Mackay.

Hey Rosie,

You will definitely want to head north. Cairns in north queensland is a good option - i lived there for a year and it is a town that lives off tourism and an easy place for travellers to pick up work. Also by living there you set yourself up by having a base to branch out and explore the northern coast through the rainforest into cooktown, or out to the great barrier reef. Who knows you might find work in a tourism company and be going to all of the great places for free!!:)
I think you will find it easy to transition in Cairns as well, because the town is sustained by tourism there are plenty people who are happy to help out with whatever you might need - also heaps of nice sharehouses where you can live with a bunch of other travellers (this is what I did).

Cheers, Kyle

Hey Rosie,

I just booked my flight last week to fly to Cairns 17th May. Decided on it instead of Sydney as the weather is warmer in the winter season. My plan is to stay there for a few weeks then find work then gradually travel my way down the east coast.

Thanks for the info Kyle I feel a bit more at ease as I was worried there wasnt going to be alot of work there to start :-). Going on my own also so looking forward to meeting up with anyone whos in the area also. so excited!!
