thanks

hi

just left singapore probably the most expensive place in south east asia, managed to live on 15 pounds a day and have change, exchange rate is 1 pound equals 2.80 singapore dollars, so living off 45 singapore dollars a day, stayed in a hostel 18 dollars, foods as cheap as you want, eating in air con food stall type places or open air food stall for about 5 dollars a meal, so you'd be looking at 15 for meals and 18 for accommodation, the rest can be used on transport the mrt (tram system) is about 1.40 each way (say you take that a couple of times a day) you'd be looking at 5.60, add it all together 18+15+5.60 = 38.60, left with 6 dollars a day for excursion some of which are free like the URA gallery or singapore museum, suntec city...

am in malaysia now - sabah, in borneo, a place called kota kinabalu cheaper than singapore. 1 pound = 7 ringgits, accommodation is 18 ringgits, food (through the day including snacks) 20 ringgits, transport/internet 10 ringgits max ( i would say put aside about 10 pounds if you plan on doing any excursion type stuff either in singapore or malaysia - would go much further in malaysia) total 18+20+10=48 ringgits which is like 7 pounds a day

i keep a daily diary and it is like this, you just have to experience it for yourself. another thing asia has a new air line similar to ryanair or easyjet in the uk, its worth checking out for flying to places

hope the info has been useful....

1300 pounds is very very plenty, might end up having to save some up to spend in singapore and live like a king in malaysia and thailand which is cheaper than malaysia?!

I've just been to Thailand for two months and ended up spending around six hundred pounds during my entire stay. I didn't travel around that much though, and stayed in fairly cheap hotels/bungalows (i.e. around 200 Baht per night), so if you plan on a bit more luxury then this will put your budget up slightly.

I went to Malaysia last year but I was only there for one day (for the Grand Prix) so I didn't really get that much of an idea about prices, but the motorway service stations we stopped at were extremely cheap so I would guess Malaysia is in a similar bracket to Thailand for everyday living costs. Not sure about hotels though.

Singapore is much more expensive than Thailand and Malaysia, but still fairly cheap.

So overall I would reckon 1300 pounds should be a nice amount to have a totally good holiday and still feel pretty relaxed about not going overdrawn.

You may want to ammend your amount of time in Singapore, it is expensive and there isn't a lot to do there. Depending where you go will dictate how much money you need. In Thailand the prices will be slightly lower since it is the low season except in Samui, prices will be slightly more expensive but still fairly cheap. In Bangkok in the KSR area you can get dorm rooms for 100 THB or cheaper depending on your standards. Outside of Bangkok you can get some pretty seedy singles for the same price. Decents singles with a/c can be found for 200 - 300 THB/night in Thailand. In Malaysia in the Perhentian Islands (I didn't spell that right) you can get some cheap beach bungalows for about $5 a night.

I'm heading into Bangkok in 3 weeks and have been looking at New Siam I Guesthouse which is in the KSR area. They do have a website but I can't remeber what it is.

Enjoy your trip.

Thailand is cheeeeeap. $100-$150 (US Dollars) gets you by there. Singapore and Malasya are a bit more expensive. You have plenty of money for four weeks. If I were you, I would use 2 weeks in Thailand and 2 weeks in Cambodia. It is worth it! Ck out the Angkor Temples in Siem Reap.
