Have a route planned for a RTW trip. Got it priced. Ticket ready to be paid for. Only thing is, I'm thinking of just buying a cheap plane ticket to the first country and then guessing the rest.. by my plane tickets while I'm out.
Had anybody else done this? Have you done both? How do both strategies compare? How about cost differences?
I wonder exactly the same thing! I want to start in Ireland and take it from there.
NY-Ecuador (probable stopover somewhere)
Bus-Train to down spine of Peru, Chile, Bolivia.
Snowboard for a while.
Cross to Buenos Aries by road/train.
Patagonia/Santiago in South by bus.
Ushuaia back to Buenos Aires by plane
Bus it up through Uruguay Amazon Brazil Venezuela to Colombia.
Flight/boat out to Cartahena to Panama and bus/train it up to Mexico.
Mexico back to Dublin/Barcelona;-)
Would it work with all the visa hastle? Will all the countries require a departure flight when you ask for a visa?
What do you think?
I agree. If you have the funds and the time - I would wing it. That's right though - you would have to be concerned about visas with some countries. If that doesn't prove to be that much of an issue, then great. Take your time where you want to and cut it short in other places if you like. That would probably be better than being pinned down to a schedule. In my opinion anyway.
I have a route planned out for my trip also. There are only a hand full of flights I'll put down money for before I go. For all the time in between it will be made up along the way.
