lol, I hear you sweptaway. When we went there I think it was 35 baht per US dollar.

Karazyal: I understand what you're saying. All good points and I should probably clarify that where we stayed was a 2-bedroom condo in Bangkok, so it's not like it was an off-the-wall setting.

Another alternative would be couchsurfing- which is free. I noticed on the website I use that there are a lot of hosts in Thailand, and especially Bangkok.

But like the previous posters said, Thailand is cheap enough: why not just get a hotel?
