Hi to all
I am planning a solo RTW trip starting Sep 05. Have a budget of approx £10000 excluding flight and kit, plan to do Singapore area /OZ/NZ, the states and canada and anywhere else that may take my fancy on route! Would appreciate advice from other "older" types who lived the dream. Do you fit in hostels with the younger ones!! Any adive would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry I cannot answer your questions but just to say I'm interested inthe same thing too. My wife and I are planning on doing a RTW trip next year and we are wondering about the accomodation side, hostels, budget hotels, B+B etc.
Other people seem to be budgetting 20-30 quid a night. Does this feel about right to people.
hiya, well i did the RTW thing last year (although i'm only 22), travellin thru oz and new zealand as well. usually get good accommodation for about 15/20 pounds a night. and yes there are a number of 'mature' travellers all seemed to fit in well. everyone just havin a laugh!! best thing you'll ever do!!
I am 34, so not quite over 40, but I have seen all range of ages in the hostels and cheap hotels at traveller haunts in the places I have been. As young as 18 right up to people in their 60s. Check out the places first. Some places are big party places, some are more laid back. Depending on what you are looking for, you should be able to find a place to fit in, no problem.
