Hi,

I am travelling to SE Asia (Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam) and was wondering whether I should have this injection.

Does any one have any advice. I leave in 3 weeks so would that be long enough to sort it all out. How much would it cost?

www.fitfortravel.scot.nhs.uk advises that for Thailand it is sometimes reccommended (but not essential) whereas it is important for Cambodia.

What to do?

Marty

Im having exactly the same dilemma myself!I saw the doctor last week who got all the information off the same website as you mention for me.The doctor seemed to think that its not necessary, but reading the thing it says if you are going to be in areas where there are mosquitos then you are at risk. Im going to the same places as you, and obviously we are going to run into mosquitos!I then spoke to 2 different pharmicists when picking up my rabies vaccine and both asked me where I needed to order Japanese B Encephalitus, which makes me thing we do need it!so confusing! My Mum got a number from her doctor for a helpline for some official medical service thing which you tell them where you are going and they tell you exactly what you need, Ill speak to her tomorrow and send you it!!!According to the pharmicist its quite a diffecult vaccine to get hold of so get straight on the case about it!!!Good Luck!If you find anything more, please let me know!
