Hi guys,
Really need some advice on where to book my visa and ticket. I'm living in Ireland and want to book a years whv for Australia. I was looking at a package for the visa and it cost 429 euros. It includes the visa, a years worldwide travel insurance, Australian bank account, tax file number, sim card with 10 dollars. If you book this you must also book your flights with this company. I'm just wondering if I did everthing seperate would it work out cheaper. I like the sound of it cos it would be handy to have everything sorted when I get over there. Also when booking flights it doesn't seem to let you book them for a year??Do you just book them for the first 6 months or so and then change your flight and if so is it expensive to change your flight??Any advice on cheap airlines??And can I book my visa before I book my ticket??Any advice much appreciated!!
Karen:)

Hiya I am doing a similar thing to you it sounds like. with doing the working visa, i found a package which pretty much included everything you are looking at, i looked into doing everything individually and after talking with different people i have found that its really easy to do the stuff by yourself, like bank account and tax file number. I just got a single ticket, but that is because I may just go on to somewhere else from Australia as I havnt planned anything yet. The thing that made me look into it, is I have done project work with a company before in africa and when i got in to the country I found out everything they said they would sort out for me and everything they charged me for i could've probably done myself, but thats just what i have found i might be completely wrong! Im not sure if this helps at all really, but it may be worth pricing everything up yourself as it may work out cheaper :)

Don't get a package like that; it's almost certainly significantly cheaper to do it yourself. A working holiday visa at the official department of immigration website costs AUD $270, or about 204 euro. Opening a bank account and getting a tax file number are both free, and really easy to do yourself when you're in Australia.

Depends on the type of ticket you get; there certainly are tickets which allow you to change your flight dates for a low fee.

And can I book my visa before I book my ticket??

Yes, you can. There's a question in the visa application process about when you expect to arrive in Australia, but you're not in any way bound by this; you can arrive in Australia anytime within 1 year of the visa having been granted.

Hiya

I agree, bit more hassle but cheaper if you do it all yourself.

Im flying with singapore as they don't charge to change flight dates and you only pay the ticket price difference if you fly from a different airport. Also, I found that there are really good deals on flights through cheap ticket/ Southall travells and Austravel (they were really helpfull tooo).

Thanks Lizzy, yeah i've heard that singapore are quite good. Did you just book for 6 months or can you book a return for a year later??
