hi guys.

does anyone have any information about how to get from luang prabang to vientiane? is highway 13 the only option? cos i heard it was a pretty gruesome, long and uncomfortable trip, with the threat of an ambush thrown in for good measure!
i plan to cross into laos from thailand at the chiang kong/huay xai border and take the slow boat to luang prabang. any stories/advice etc. on that journey would be good too. then from vientiane i plan to fly to hanoi with air asia. anyone flown with them?

any info on laos, vietnam and cambodia at all would be great.

cheers, joey

The road is fine -- there has not been an attack on that road in a few years now. It's a longish trip if you do it in one hit, but many choose to break in at Vang Vieng for a few days.

Hope that helps

cheers mate, thats the kind of response i was hoping for! is vang vieng the place where people go tubing and stuff? can you recommend a hostel there, and any other must see/do stuff? cheers, joey

Yes, Vang Vieng is the one with the tubing etc and over 40 guesthouses now. As for places to recommend there, difficult to say as it depends on your interests, but Bungalows Riverside is a good shot as is Sisavang Guesthouse - though the latter is more of a hotel.

There's a lot more info on Vang Vieng on my website - .

Hope that helps
