Hi Peter,

I got on the site a few minutes ago -- BEFORE loading the link above in #10 -- and it worked perfectly! I have no idea why, and I am sure that my IT dept. hasn't figured it out, so I guess it's just . . . magic! In any event, I sure am glad things are back to normal. Now that they are, though, I'm afraid to run the url above -- should I give it a try anyway?

Hi there,

Mr. TTG here! I tried viewing a link that TTG sent me on TP today and had the same thing happen – the long list of links on the left (TEXT format) instead of the normal HTML view. I’m on a different computer in a completely different office building. Oddly, right as the problem seems to have resolved itself at her office, now it’s starting up at mine! Could it be something on TP’s end?

Quoting TTG

Hi Peter,

There's no harm trying the link above. I'd expect it to work. The fact that the problem has resolved itself suggests that it might be a caching issue to do with your ISP. I really wouldn't expect the problem to return. But if it does, please try that different link above and see if it loads up.

Hello Mr TTG. Would you be able to try loading these two urls:

http://s.tpstc.com/css/styles.css

http://1.tpstc.com/css/styles.css

and see if either of them work for you?

I'm not ruling out it being a problem that we could fix on our end. If the first of those urls loads ok and the second one doesn't, then I will switch the site to use the first option!

Mr. TTG here again. The second link comes up as code. (BTW: I'm on a Mac at work, using Firefox v3.6)

Bad news - the site is back to being just a series of links again! I've now downloaded all the links you've provided but the TP site is still downloading incorrectly. Anything else we can try? Not sure if this is helpful, but all other web sites that I access through this computer are loading just fine.

Thanks!

It's not about loading those links to fix things for you, it's about telling us which of those links give output, so we can maybe figure out what is happening, and then to fix things.

(Those links are basically to text files designed to tell your browser how to show the site. Peter is suspecting that the one at the address that starts with 1.tpstc.com (which is currently used by the site) is not reachable for you, while the one at s.tpstc.com is. We need you to test this for us, by telling us if you see a textfile at either or at both of those urls. (Also, they're supposed to be the same file, so if both give output but look very different, then please tell us about that, too - maybe copy/paste the first few lines if that is the case.))

Ah, I see! Okay:

The links "http://1.tpstc.com/css/styles.css" and "http://s.tpstc.com/css/styles.css" both load pop-up windows that say something like "blockpageCACZBKID.css - Notepad" or "blockpage[4].css - Notepad" at the top. It varies every time I load it. At all times, and for both links, the windows are blank inside.

The link "http://static.travellerspoint.com/css/styles.css" loads a pop-up window full of code. It reads "styles[1].css - Notepad" at the top.

I hope this helps - I really appreciate you guys trying to figure this out!!

Thanks, that is very helpful!
"blockpage" sounds particularly bad; that means there is almost certainly a misconfigured "security" product (either dedicated content filtering, or a virus scanner, or a firewall; do you use a work-provided firewall or virus scanner at home?) erroneously blocking the tpstc.com domain. I tried to find out which product it could be, but apparently everyone (symantec, mcafee, websense, freestone contentkeeper, ...) uses the term "block page".
You'd indeed have to go to your IT people, and tell them that their "content filtering system or firewall is blocking the tpstc.com domain used for serving stylesheets to travellerspoint.com"

Yeah, I work at a law firm. We have all sorts of blocked web sites (god forbid anyone tries to get on Facebook during the day!) and firewalls. I'll see if my IT guy can fix this. Fingers crossed and thanks again!!

There's a workaround you could use to make the site look ok even if those files aren't loading.

Instead of accessing the site on http://www.travellerspoint.com, load up https://secure.travellerspoint.com

This will force it to load the site on a secure connection, and then load those styles from our local servers. It will not be affected by the same issue. You will however probably get a few warnings about items being loaded insecurely. You can safely ignore any warnings that you get like that. The site might also try to take you back to the non-secure page at times, so it could also be a bit of a hassle.

The best thing really is to get them to not block that tpstc.com domain. Strange that it would be blocked really, since it's a brand new domain. Well, I guess that may actually be why it's blocked.
