So here I am ... Half way through my round the world travels...arriving in Singapore to get my Indian visa...(as advised back in the uk)

Unfortunately after my visit to the indian embassy this morning I can not get an Indian tourist visa from Singapore :/

This is where I seek your advice...I am travelling to Hong Kong and wondered if I can get it from here. My flight from HK to India is booked for the beginning of December and I was planning on staying for 3 months until the end of my trip...

So the question is ...am I able to get a tourist visa as a uk passport holder for India from HK and if so how long for?

If you can assist me this I will be eternally grateful:)

Loads of love
Angela

Consul General of India
16-D, United Centre
95, Queensway
Hongkong
Tel.: 00-852-25284028. 25272275
Fax.: 00-852-28664-124

Passport/Visa applications/documents for attestation are accepted between 0930 hours to 1200 hours on working days.

Passports/Visa/attested documents are delivered between 1700 hours to 1730 hours on working days.

Usually two working days, so make sure you do not need your passport for changing money, etc in that time.

Failing that, try a Hong Kong travel agent as most have visa services. They are often at the harbour end of Nathan Road, sometimes in the high buildings there. Local English language newspapers will often have their ads, they should be able to get you a visa for a fee.

Indian embassy in Singapore does not entertain visa applications for non Singapore citizens or for non-residents. Nor the travel agents in Singapore can help you.
HK would indeed be a better place to get your visa.

Indian embassies (or so called High Commissions) issue visa only in case you have proof of return flight ticket. You will also have to give them an address (hotel name, with exact address including post code, etc) and a contact phone (which can be the hotel's). You can look up on the internet or check your guide book for details. Of course, you will not have to stay there and normally they never ask for proof of hotel reservation. You will also have to give them an itinerary, which you can just come up with based on the main tourist destination. This latter will not force you to follow it, it is just for their records. Save any sensitive areas and give them only the main tourist spots.
Better to print out the visa application form to see what else is required but they will surely give you another form in HK, which will be a little different from what is on the internet.
In some countries, they also require a proof/copy of your latest bank statement. So, if you have one, just print it out from your bank's website in case they ask for it.
You will also need passport photos.
Sometimes, they give you single entry, sometimes double/multiple. Typically, visa is granted for half a year and it expires within6 months from the date of issue.
Also bear in mind in case, you want to leave India for Nepal or any other country, that by rule, you can't re-enter India for two months. Although, I recently read on the forum that some people managed to get re-entry sooner by submitting extra application & fee at the Indian embassy to Nepal.

Hope you'll get your visa easy. Enjoy India!

Cyberia & Kichikacha

THANKYOU both for this detailed information...this is wonderfully helpful.

I have been in touch with the Indian Embassy in HK who have confirmed that i can get my tourist visa...interestingly I can get a 6 month tourist visa from London and only a 3 month visa from HK...rules and regulations of bureaucracy...God love it !

Blessing to you
