hellokittylover has indicated that this thread is about USA

Hi,

me and my sister have decided kind of spare of the moment to go to america this summer for 3 weeks from around the 15th august to the 5th september! she's just graduated and im going to uni in september so we thought it would be nice to do something special before i go!!!

basically we dont really no anything, we want to start in new york as we're planning on flying into JFK airport, but we'd like to travel round maybe to philyladephia or boston as well, but only if there not massively far away, im gonna sound stupid as i cant work out how far away on the map they actually are!!

basically i was hoping someone would be able to recommend what we should see and do and any places near new york we should travel to see we're not going to hav a car so it'll all be done by public transport if that makes any difference, any advice and suggestions really welcomed as i basically have no idea!!!!

really dont mind seeing all the proper toruisty things but would also like to see the less toruisty well known places as well!

thanks
lottie x

The great northeast is rather compact, and well served by public transport (I like Amtrak train in this area, and now there are luxury buses as well). Philadelphia is not on my list of exciting places (I was born there), but Washington DC and Boston are, and easily reached by good train service. Those dates will be especially crowded since it's Labor Day weekend - book NOW!

I suggest using Airbnb to find accommodation rather than paying those very expensive hotel prices.

you can take amtrak from either penn station which is 34th Street which all trains go to or take the megabus or bolt bus to Phily or Boston; I found megabus and bolt to be cheaper than amtrak; If you like driving you can drive but I like the comfort of mass transportation but I do live in NYC so it's easier for me to go back and forth; there is a lot to do here in NYC as you may already know; if you are interested Spiderman finally opened sucessfully on Broadway we have several street festivals that go till the end of August I believe; return of the apes will be playing I believe when you arrive so maybe you see in IMAX if have never done; museum of natural history has an incredible frog exhibit going on right now - let me know what you are interested in and I can give you other things to look at - have a great day - Caren
