I'm hoping some people can give me a little bit of advice as I've changed my mind a million times and really need to book my flights in the next week or so.

I wanted to fly from Manchester to Cairns and work my way down the East Coast getting to Sydney for Christmas and New Year the problem is the flight to Cairns is about 34 hours which is surely too much!

So I thought about booking a return flight to Sydney spending a couple of days there and then fly to Cairns and again work my way down OR I could just fly to Sydney and work my way up and then try and get back for Christmas and New Year again.......Just really not sure what is best and I really need to book my ideas up given I'll be going in October.

Any help is much appreciated as this is driving me insane!!!

Presumably you mean that your flight is in two parts and you'll going to have to spend hours at some connecting airport?

Have you looked at flights from other airports than Manchester?

Generally when people fly Down under they will break their flight by spending a few days or so somewhere in Asia, which makes such a long journey easier to bear, with Bangkok being an easy stopover and a better chance of getting direct flights to Bangkok and Cairns.

As to a Sydney - Cairns flight, that would depend on the price. Also Brisbane is a lot closer to Cairns.

Thanks for your advice, I'm booking my flights this week and look as though I'll be stopping in Singapore for a few days, I can then get a flight to Cairns via Brisbane (as you said in your mail)

Flying from the UK might be better to go from Heatherow. Thats what I have found anyway. Most airports dont fly to australia and you have to get a connection to there anyway!
