Hi everyone, me and 3 friends are planning on travelling across America for a month next year by train, was just wondering if anyone knows of any volunteer work we could do for a few days in some places across America? We plan on starting in San Francisco and ending in NY, not entirely sure where we will be stopping off yet, any ideas?!
Thanks :)

Have you got any qualifications? Mostly unskilled volunteer work in the US is helping in soup kitchens and the like, other than rare disasters like New Orleans where hands are needed.

You could try getting in touch with inner city aid agencies and see what they need.

Really if you want to help the needy, you should try a third world country.

If you want to help, there are always people looking for help.

In San Francisco, look on Craigslist under Jobs-Volunteer. Make sure its an actual agency or school or company and not just someone claiming they need help around the house or with a relative, etc.--the reason being that you don't really know if those types of listing are legit or not.

Many service groups--like Second Harvest Food Bank, or Homeless shelters or United Way or school districts all need lots of volunteers all the time. They would welcome someone who was willing to give any time to help--even if only a one-day effort.
